China PMI Watch: March Manufacturing Returns to Expansion
Published on: 2026-04-27
China's official manufacturing PMI returned to expansion territory in March 2026, giving procurement teams a useful signal for supplier follow-up, order timing, and factory capacity checks.
The March manufacturing PMI reached 50.4, up 0.2 percentage points from the previous month. New orders and purchasing volume also moved above the 50-point line, indicating stronger demand and renewed factory buying activity.
For sourcing teams, this matters because a mild expansion can tighten quote windows and lead times in selected categories. It is worth checking whether target suppliers are seeing fuller production schedules, whether key materials need earlier confirmation, and whether inspection slots should be booked sooner.
